Hello all.  I was preparing for an Art Walk I was participating in , in Los Gatos Ca recently, and I came across this painting that I originally called "Who's looking at who". As I looked at the painting in it's original form, I was thinking it needed some changes and enhancements. I decided to fine tune the fish, add an upper level to the waterfall, enhance the sea fans, add some anemones, remove some fish and add some new ones. I have heard of artists who refuse to change their paintings once its finished but for me, unless its been sold or prints have been made of it, I feel I still have the freedom to change if I want as I'm the one who created it in the first place.  The image below shows the way the painting used to be. I just find it "better" now with these changes. So much fun to now see several of my paintings showing up in Google search when looking for tropical paintings, split views  etc.. Guess the postings are getting me noticed more out there in the world as now galleries, consultants, and shows are soliciting me instead of the other way around.  Our family beach house has to be one of the most peaceful settings on the Monterey Bay.
                    
                
                




 Located near Moss Landing, about half way between Santa Cruz and Monterey,
 one of those special environments we are blessed to enjoy.
   
 As I get older, I seek out the serenity of this place when ever I can, putting a chair in the sand and watching the waves , getting inspiration for paintings and relaxing. Often we have pods of dolphins and whales that breach, right in front of you.  The area in front of our development is pretty private and one can be the ONLY one on the beach at any given moment. There is a wooden runway and stair case going down from the dunes onto the sand below. As the artist, I am able to create a bit more rustic looking staircase. I decided to add some children playing with their dog in the waves and a flock of water birds in flight heading down towards the Monterey peninsula. This painting has been created as a present for my sister's birthday. I hope she will like it. This sunset was a labor of love for me, attempting to come up with some vibrant colors that I am actually now getting known for... this seascape could be most anywhere from the California coast to a more tropical beach environment. A seascape believe it or not , is one of the more difficult paintings to create.  There is a very fluid technique that the artist has to deal with .. How would the water move ? Where would the light hit the water?Where is the light coming from, the sun , the moon...? How bright can the painting be ?  When the wave falls onto a lower level , how does it crest and how large is the main wave in relationship to the rest of the painting. OMG.. just so much to deal with , its enough to stress an artist out. There is a thing called the anatomy of a wave that definitely helps when creating it but of course the light inside the wave is yet another element to think about. At the completion of the painting, you are either proud of it or irritated by it and if you don't like it you have to keep going until you feel its right.  Well I hope you like it.  It is a larger painting  40" wide by 30" high so there is a lot of canvas to cover.  I now finally like the painting and figured when I could stand there and look out to sea and feel relaxed with a sense of serenity like my friend Cindy's comment about it after seeing it, I am ready to show it to all of you. Hello all fellow artists and fans of my work.  I have been fine tuning old paintings and creating some new ones getting ready for a new showing of my art at Rivas Fish House on the wharf in Santa Cruz Ca beginning May 1st for 6 weeks. I am very excited to have my art on display and for sale at this location as it is right out on the ocean in a beautiful restaurant with full walls of glass viewing the light house and beaches of lovely West Cliff Dr from the water perspective. It will be the start of the tourist season there, a great time to be seen and better possibilities of sales. As a child we came over every other Sunday to the wharf to hang out with my family and have lunch there in Santa Cruz, which was my parents old stomping grounds(literally). They used to drive over in the 40's every weekend to dance to the big bands at the boardwalk. We have a family beach house at Pajaro Dunes near Moss Landing part of the Monterey Bay, that I go to as much as I can to lock into my mind, what the waves look like for painting inspirations. This new painting is of course completely out of my head but feels a bit more tropical than the area my paintings will be showing but there are several areas in Monterey and Carmel that do have similar waves and water color. Seascapes remind us of our travels, vacation with family and friends, and a ocean that we are all drawn to from all of our common beginnings.
