Hi all. Recently my dear friends went on a trip to Greenland on kind of an expedition called Ice burgs and Northern lights. They were able to see some amazing sites including polar bears, amazing beauty and untouched wilderness. I was inspired by their photos and decided to create this painting which includes an ice burg bridge and penguins jumping into the water in the background on the mid left side of the painting. At the current rate of retreat all the glaciers in Glacier National park will be gone by the year 2070. Scientists are reporting polar bears drowning because they have to swim longer distances to reach the ice flows and that the polar bear will become extinct in Alaska by the year 2050. The less we rely on fossil fuels(coal and oil), burning them to create fuel, a reverse of the warming can still take place. There are many people and companies in the world who benefit financially from these fuels who will always strive to keep things the way they are. We as a human race, need to understand the consequences of all we do and encourage change before its too late for these wonderful natural environments and the future of this planet. I will continue to paint as many natural environments and the wildlife in those habitats to inspire with beauty, still with the hope that people will continue to appreciate these places great enough to want to restore and protect our world. Until next time... Take care and enjoy life.. John Garland Tyson Tyson environmental art.. Hello all. We recently visited the rugged northern coastline of Mendocino County and I took several photos of the area for painting inspiration. One of the places we went to was Point Arena Light house. The land 6 miles north and south of the light house was donated to the public to enjoy. Many great rock formations carved by the pounding waves clearly show the land being slowly removed by water, now a wonderful natural habitat for wildlife. One of my favorites are the pelicans that soar effortlessly on the wind . I had to put one into the painting. The light house is open to the public but show up on a non-foggy day so you don't miss out on the view from the top. I highly recommend this trip up the coast for all you soul searchers out there. It will add a new breath of life into all who venture there. Hope you like it... till next time enjoy...
Hi all .. I have been just making sure that all of my paintings look interesting.. so I decided to add a sea bird into the painting .. I think it's kind of a fun way to add a focal point. the more character the better. There are many times in life that something beautiful overshadows something even more amazing.. in this case a coral reef just below the surface teaming with life. Maybe i am a little strange going back to a painting that I thought was finished, but sometimes you just look at something and know it can be better. For me these days, everything that I create is a reflection of myself in one form or another. I am allowed to change as I see fit as long as the piece hasn't been sold yet. Sometimes its just like when I used to have my store and I would move a piece of furniture to a new space on the showroom floor. Suddenly it was the hot ticket, something that had not been seen before. If a painting is stagnant, sometimes its good to put some new life in it.. Should be interesting to see if people remember it from before. Next week we embark on a new coast for inspiration, maybe something a bit more rocky.. Watch for a new painting coming your way.. until next time.. Enjoy Hi all. Hope everyone is doing well out there. This is the latest painting I have been working on. I enjoyed creating the vibrant colors with this seascape. The wave was especially difficult with many layers of depth and transparency. It took many hours. I am always fascinated by what my brush has in store for me . This was another painting that just evolved by itself with only mental references . The painting is large at 40" across by 30" high. Hope you like it... till next time. Enjoy.. Out of great tragedy lessons to be learned and love to continue, life goes on . It is difficult to keep going, keep the movement of the brush on the canvas. Our family lost a beloved member, my only niece, who had just turned 18 years old. This is the first painting I have created since that great loss a couple weeks ago. I have to take this tragedy and become inspired to do better with each artistic creation. This painting came totally out of my head, starting out as an island with basic water for a class I was teaching at my sister's school for K-6th grade basic techniques. The canvas had barely been touched. Just enough to inspire the kids to create their own work. I took the partially completed canvas home and there is sat for several weeks with a stack of other canvas. When my niece past, I decided to finish the canvas and it totally took on a different design. The little red fish that was painting on the original , swimming under the surface, became a boat anchored just off the beach of an island lagoon. There is no one in the boat which leaves the impression to the viewer that the person who was in the boat swam ashore. Perhaps my niece helped me paint this piece, knowing that she has moved on to a different beautiful shore. Tragedy inspires us to do better. Hopefully you will see this in new paintings to come... Hi all. I just returned from a great experience down in Laguna Beach Ca. I have been a member of the Laguna Art Group for several years now, visiting the town's galleries and enjoying all that Laguna Beach has to offer including the many art shows there such as the Festival of the Arts and the Pageant of the Masters. Recently I submitted a couple of my paintings to see if I could get elected to participate in the Laguna Art Walk, which happens every first Thursday of each month. I got the happy news that I could bring down 3 paintings, an easel, a light and an extension cord for the June 6th art walk event. The Art Walk has hundreds of super interesting folks including movie stars, art critics, agents, gallery owners and other locals of Laguna Beach. All galleries serve wine and food with live music. A nostalgic shuttle(looks like an open air cable car) bring folks in from a lot on Laguna Canyon Rd, down into town to enjoy the event. I was positioned with about 7 other artists, in a courtyard near the LGOCA, a local favorite gallery, where I was able to finally get some recognition in that area. I have been invited to participate in another show soon and hope to get into a local gallery because of that exposure. My paintings have evolved through the years to include many different styles from undersea, seascape, landscape, safari, koi and medusa jellyfish collections. I love creating new paintings and now am starting to finally have a recognizable look that folks are taking notice to. Watch for my latest trip tic and remember I can totally create a custom commissioned piece for commercial and residential spaces. Until next time... enjoy.... Hi all . I always like to create a blog following up the creation of a new painting, to share inspiration of my art. This latest in a series of gold fish and koi carp paintings, was a fun one to do. It was quite an evolutionary process which started with the rocks at the bottom of the pond. I added light at the top which then touch the rocks. The fish took many hours of trial and error and modification, created totally from my memories of looking at several different koi fish and ultimately designing my own. One of the fun parts of painting is playing with shadow and color and shape until it suddenly comes alive(at least on canvas). I really hope you like this one as it is one of my favorite new paintings. I would love for you to spread the word of the work as I know several of you out there are Koi fish lovers and you never know who is looking for a new painting to adorn a wall, especially an interior designer trying to add the finishing touches on a project. Remember , I do commission work as well. Until next time.. Enjoy!!! |
